Waiheke Island Rugby Club is a unique, community-based club - the only island rugby club in New Zealand.
The club plays its games in Auckland competitions, meaning Waiheke teams travel to the city every second week during the Rugby season – April-August.
On alternate weeks teams travel to Waiheke and get to experience what a ‘country club’ is all about – every visiting team is fed (barbecues) and enjoys laid-back island hospitality.
Waiheke Rugby fields some 10 teams – from Under 5’s “nursery” grade to Seniors who turn out for somewhat competitive social games.
The club’s 10 teams operate in three divisions:
Junior club – Junior Rugby is for all boys and girls under the age of 13 (as of 1st January 2018). The age of Junior players is taken from the 1st of January of the current year. There are different grades of rugby dependant on age and weight. If you are graded in Under 6 or Under 7 you will be playing non-tackle rugby, those in higher grades will play full contact rugby.
If you are a girl you will be playing in a mixed team.
