1. An Alter Ego Productions presents Ian Simpson, 0yawa and The Hollowmen!

Expect a diverse spread of styles from the expanded singer/songwriter line up with Ian Simpson and a rhythm section of Malcolm McMoretone and Manuel Kahura. New songs with a new edge but still a great vocalist and an evolving song writer. Simpson has been busy playing and putting in the yards and this show promises an even fuller performance.

The core of Oyawa that has outlived line-up changes is Nikki Ngatai (songwriter, vocalist & guitarist), with long time drummer Miles Gillett, once based in the US playing in bands such as El Groupo Sexo and Fluf. Oyawa are always rehearsing, working on new material as an outlet to Nikki’s evolution as a writer and performer. A local favourite!

Lastly, but not a chance of least, is The Hollowmen. Expect bells and whistles and any other manner of alarm, as these guys mean business. Expect rock’n’roll, performance and energy. All shaping up to be a great night, so don’t miss it!

2. Universally Challenged

“No Conferring: Your starter for 10.” How do you fancy a trip down memory lane with the opportunity to pit your wits against our two teams of known Islanders in a Waiheke version of the quiz show University Challenge? The original (show) was hosted by Bamber Gascoigne, it ran for 25 years and had a simple format which TV audiences came to love. Two teams of university students from different universities went head to head on specialised and general knowledge subjects to find out which team (and by extension University) was the smartest.

“Universally Challenged” follows the same format. Two teams of “known” islanders (Expats versus Kiwis), go head to head answering questions related to Waiheke, New Zealand and Overseas. The show is a fundraiser the Waiheke High School Arts Faculty to help all students with aspirations of going on to further education. All money raised goes to the Arts Faculty, and you’ll have the chance to take home some nice prizes in our raffle.

So get the brain into gear and join us for an evening of knowledge and fun—and remember, “no conferring!”
Doors and café open at 7:00. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased from Waiheke High School, or booked with the Theatre via voicemail on 372-2941, with a Facebook comment or email ArtworksTheatre@gmail.com.
