On the last friday of each month Waiheke Local will review the upcoming events for the month ahead. For this upcoming month we see the start of the school holidays and the opening of the new library. July 2nd
1. Matariki on the Move – Mana Waka
Mana Waka is a feature-length documentary, directed by Merata Mita in 1990. It was made from footage shot by RGH Manley between 1937 and 1940. Princess Te Puea Herangi commissioned the building of three large waka taua for the 1940 centennary of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi. Black and white footage follows the long, slow, unfolding of the construction of the waka. The spiritual element of this work is evident in the film. The soundtrack was specially composed for the silent footage.The Film duration: 1hr 19m. Matariki on the Move is a series of events across Auckland, proudly brought to you by Auckland Council.

1. O.R.A Power Day Community Event
Onetangi Residents Association would like to invite everyone in the community to join them in celebrating 60yrs of power to the area. The day starts at 3pm and we have lots happening from bouncy castle to a community hangi ($10adult $5child) and lighting up of the old pine tree at 5pm. The evening will end dancing to a live band “The Hillbillies” and a shared supper. Tickets for the dance are $10 each. Tickets will also be available at the door on the night.
Profit from this day will go towards upgrading the hall kitchen.

2. Kids go Free – Auckland – Devonport

1. School Holiday Workshop – Waiheke Yogi Kids
On the 9th of July (first week of school holidays) Waiheke yogi kids will be running a two hour workshop, which will include, Asana, yogic movement within music, breathing, storytelling, creating our own yoga stories, yoga in nature and also making a sweet and healthy treat. Cost $25.00 places limited and enrolments essential.

1. Acoustic Cafe
A fundraiser for the Te Motu Children’s Educational Trust. Alter Ego presents Acoustic Café – A huge night of live original music with many local, and “overseas” artists performing their own music in a rich theatre setting. The Artworks Theatre complex is undergoing a renaissance with the development of the new library; it will improve the theatre experience immensely. We will have live music from sundown till midnight.

1. Kinder – A Musical by Kathy Ogletree
Kinder is a musical set in a children’s hospital in the 60s. It centers around three children and their mistreatment by the matron, and it deals with the issues children face and the unwillingness of people to get involved and stand up for children. 1. New Waiheke Library Opening Day
The new Waiheke Library is all set to open this month, with the old library closing on July 12th. More details about the grand opening will be revealed closer to the date.
